Third places are informal public spaces for sociability like cafés, pubs, trattoria and so on. Ray Oldenburg insisted that there were enormous personal and social benefits in third places for citizens.  Each third place is characterized by unique charms derived from unique communication styles. We examine the relationship between communication style and spatial design in a case study of Commons University in Osaka.Commons University is an autonomous project to have an informal public space.  Members of Commons University enjoy a diffused style of communication.Instead of lectures, members have a meal and alcoholic drinks while enjoying chatting and small talk.
