Setting up IPs in those institutions aimed at establishing their international position under 1) a necessity to respond to the demand for English language higher education by Thai students, 2) raising content quality of higher education to international standards, including from the viewpoints of quality assurance and accreditation by national and international organizations and 3) advancement to accept foreign students by promoting academic exchanges with foreign countries. The number of institutions to set up IPs in the 2012 fiscal year was 60 (36 public, 24 private), comprising 37.9% of the total of 171 higher education institutions. The total number of IPs amounted to 1,017 and included 344 bachelors, 394 masters, 259 doctoral and 30 programs for other certificates.
