Then, we administered it to our students to examine what motivations and demotivations they have. We also held the Secondary Level English Proficeincy test to evaluate the students' English proficiency. Finally, we analyzed the collected data using a factor analysis and explored the relationships between motivation/demotivation and English proficiency. Through the data analyses, we found some motivation unique to our Japanese EFL students, such as "aspiration of students" and demotivation, such as "lack of confidence." There was a correlation between the three major motivation factor scores and the English proficiency.
