Usually narrative clauses have the same form as temporal clauses but should not be treated as ordinary temporal clauses, because they have many charac-teristics in common with main clauses.\n In fact, few studies have discussed the fact that some languages other than English have narrative clauses. Japanese toki-clauses have a use that is called \"monogatari-no-bun\" in Teramura（1992）and \"toki-no-settei\" in Masuoka（1997）.
