The group was referred to as the Sonderkommando(Special Squad). Although the members were victims of the Holocaust themselves, they have often been demonized and depicted as unscrupulous wretches who lent a helping hand to the Nazis to exterminate their own people. This paper, focusing on Auschwitz, intends to offer a better understanding of these slave laborers. First, it describes their tasks, privileges and eventual fate. Then, it refutes the strictures posed by critics such as Primo Levi and Bruno Bettelheim, and points out that the men of the Sonderkommando had no choice but to continue their demeaning toil. Finally, this article reviews our conventional image of man, which resists embracing them as humans.}, pages = {19--33}, title = {アウシュヴィッツの特別作業班}, volume = {18}, year = {2004}, yomi = {シバサキ, マサコ} }
