The audience interests shifted from “hard news” to “soft news”. The network-CATV news stations have been put under the control of Giant communication-media corporations and the 80% of newspapers are owned by just a dozen of big newspaper chains. The business pressures have shrunken the budgets of the newsroom and the numbers of reporters and correspondents. The 24-hour news of CATV and the on-line news on the Internet have made the newspapers and network TVs “old-media”. The rising of conservative radio/TV talkshows have made it their business to attack “liberal media” and blurred the separation of “fact and opinion”, the principle of the traditional journalism.
