Said’s Culture and Imperialism stirred up a post-colonial dispute about the novel, Mansfield Park, written by Jane Austen.  But Said’s point in question was to interpret the “structure of attitude and reference” of Austen from a viewpoint of the criticism of colonialism from within a colonial realm. I would like to show that it was what he captured by “contrapuntal reading” of Austen’s interpretation in The Country and the City, Reymond Williams presented.  If it was Williams in The Country and the City who drew out the criticism of the class society from within the class society of Austen via a viewpoint of the class Austen could not hold but Williams could, it could be interpreted that Said in Culture and Imperialism drew out the criticism of colonialism from within the colonialism society of Austen via a post-colonial viewpoint we can hold but Austen and Williams could not.}, pages = {91--105}, title = {ジェイン・オースティンの『マンスフィールド・パーク』をめぐるポストコロニアル論争について}, volume = {23}, year = {2010} }
